The IX edition of Art Festival was presented on Wednesday 18 June at the Sala Giunta of the Municipality of Numana, in the presence of all the administrations that support the initiative. At the opening, for the honors of the house, Gianluigi Tombolini, mayor of Numana, very pleased to host the Festival for the fourth year «an event that evokes the ancient circus traditions, to which we are all linked since childhood, which I have seen grow year after year. It is an event capable of exciting the public and attracting tourists, even local ones, in line with the philosophy of hospitality of the Riviera del Conero. A round of applause to the creator Gian Luigi Mandolini who gave life to this project and who over the years has had the strength to preserve it and make it increasingly recognizable». For Andrea Michelini, mayor of Porto Recanati «the Festival has been a fixed appointment for the opening of the Porto Recanati summer season for 4 years now. It is capable of uniting 4 cities of the Riviera del Conero, which is a pearl for the entire Adriatic coast. It is an event capable of attracting a well-defined target audience and hosting international artists and companies. I would like to thank the promoting association Whats Art that has consistently implemented the artistic quality proposed and that has created an event that overcomes all parochialism to give breath to unitary perspectives that are good for the entire territory“.
For Francesca Carli, Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Loreto “it is a great emotion to welcome Art Festival for the third year in the splendid setting of the belvedere in via Sisto V and in piazza Leopardi, in a special year for Loreto, included in the jubilee year and a destination for many tourists. An important stage of an equally important event, capable of uniting different territories. A live experience, to be lived, in a direct relationship between the public and performers from all over the world“.
Emanuele Pepa, Mayor of Recanati, agrees “on the value of the Festival for the entire Marche region thanks to its itinerant nature, I reiterate the added value for Recanati where it was born and raised. Thanks to the tenacity of the organizers who this year will give a taste of the Festival also in the outskirts of the city, given that an extra date is scheduled for July 26 in the Santa Lucia neighborhood. I hope they will be protagonists of many other editions of the Festival”.
To crown the speeches, that of Pierpaolo Borroni of the Marche Regional Council, who reiterated “the importance for the Marche Region and the Regional Council of an event of this kind, capable of giving strength to the entire territory both at a tourist and economic level”.
Great satisfaction for the promoting association Whats Art for the 2025 edition of the Art Festival, an event with an increasingly cosmopolitan meaning, given the number of artists coming from all over the world, and faithful to the host territories, in a constant dialogue with all the local realities. “An exceptional edition” – underlined Gian Luigi Mandolini – “with completely new shows, the result of a great deal of research but also of a lot of collaboration on the part of the artists, who are largely responsible for the success of the event“. A well-defined format, which in its itinerant version, is shaped and adapted to the needs of the cities that frame it, always remaining the same but always changing in appearance. Porto Recanati, Numana, Loreto, Recanati, united by the same Festival, but protagonists in a unique way. “A festival that has become big, as was in the rosiest expectations of the early years, thanks to the support of the administrations, sponsors, all the staff and many local entities” – reiterated Gian Luigi Mandolini before proceeding to the details of the program for each date of the Festival.
In Porto Recanati, which will open the 2025 edition on June 27, the sole guest will be the Turin company Circo Madera with Gran Cabaret Madera, a show that combines balancing, aerial rope, German wheel, juggling, opera singing and comic theater, developing a comedy that starts from the exasperation of the clown tradition, in which the error becomes a source of laughter and creative solutions. Circo Madera, which has been supported by the Ministry of Culture as an innovation company since 2021, has been working for years to spread the performing arts with courses, initiatives and reviews with an inclusive and aggregative character, creating a social and cultural alternative for the community.
In Numana, on Friday 4 July, the shows will embellish the breathtaking spaces of the historic center. There will be aerial acrobatics, circus, juggling both with the Circo Bipolar Company, which will perform with Café Rouge, an energetic and dynamic show, which unites the earthly world with that of the air, mixed with a poetic and sometimes humorous vein; and with the Argentine Company Duo Un Pie, from Argentina, with Love and Salt, a duo of acrobats masters of “mano a mano”.
To the delight of the little ones, by popular demand, Sluggy the balloonist is back, who will shape original and interactive sculptures, often invented on the spot based on artistic inspiration. A mini park will be set up in Via Roma with tennis rackets, bow and arrows and other games where balloons will be the protagonists. And for the magic of fire there will be the warrior of light, Madama Scintilla, by Gaia Atmen: between numbers as delicate as crystal, tests of dexterity and breathtaking special effects, she will offer the public a reflection on goodness, on love and on that strength that each of us has inside ourselves.
Also at the Art Festival there will be national previews, such as the one proposed by the Franco-German duo Pigreco Company, for the contemporary circus show, juggling and balancing on bottles, My heart is on the table, already winner of the Emilio Vassalli Prize 2022. The Pigreco Company will be both in Loreto in Piazza dei Galli, and in Recanati in the historic center.
In Loreto, whose date is set for Sunday 6 July, we will find both the Circo Bipolar with lots of circus and aerial acrobatics and the Duo Un Pie, acrobats masters of “mano a mano”. For the fire there will be Gloria Coppola, a multifaceted performer, with a show whose name, Non rompetemi le bolle, is a program in itself and which will evolve into an escalation of bubbles, first small, then large and gradually giant, until they cross the border of the stage becoming one with the audience. The finale, based on fire. In Piazza Garibaldi the Dubaduba Music Show, Laura Rocchegiani and Francesco Colocci, representing the Italian-Danish collective Dubaduba, a set-up, a participatory concert, in which the audience contributes directly to the creation of the repertoire, a fluid para-jazz-pop-alternative interweaving.
Closing in Recanati with the two days in the historic center and a program full of shows including music, theater, circus, entertainment for children and folk dances.
For emerging music, they will alternate with live performances during the two evenings: Malvino, musician but also sound designer and author of soundtracks for theater shows, who boasts collaborations with Modena City Ramblers, O’Zulù, Marcello Coleman and Michael McGlynn; THE WINE BARRELS who will propose a sound with blues roots, but which mixes the grit of rock’n’roll and sensual funk rhythms, creating a dynamic and captivating sound experience; Segnali di ripresa, a folktronica music trio, whose songs move on melodic structures inspired by old nursery rhymes, with lyrics that play between invention and memory, translating and transforming ancient stornelli into new musical narratives; Il Maestrale, a musical project that unites the pens of Alessandra Valenzano, Simona Valente and Nicholas Palmieri. An independent and no-music-gender collective that blends pop-rock, world music and electronic songwriting with social lyrics; Davide Fasulo, a multi-instrumentalist composer, conductor of instrumental and vocal ensembles, sound designer and producer. Collaborating with Italian and international directors and choreographers, he has brought his compositions to the stage and screen both live and with studio productions or sound installations and music for videos.
For contemporary circus, many national and international companies: Nicola Fanton, specialized in Cyr-wheel, juggling and clown theater, who through his Wine o’clock! will convey the story of a worker trapped in the routine and alienation of modern life. Another all-female duo Menayerí Circo from Argentina with Clown, Handstand and Hula Hoop: their eccentric characters, unique aesthetics and explosive rhythm create the identity of this troupe.
Nicola and Marilù of Pyrovaghi, who with Back To Life duepuntozero will bring to the stage an intense love story told through the Fire Dance of Kalaripayattu to the notes of the great Italian singer-songwriter. Cristal Circo, alias Maria Sol Lence, a multifaceted artist originally from Argentine Patagonia, in the role of Tutú Cristal, a dancer who never gives up and is committed to shining again with humor and unique skills.
The evocative Cloister of Sant’Agostino will be the backdrop to the magic of Sand Art, according to the interpretation of Ermelinda Coccia. With the performance, Life, will tell us about the thin thread that binds us to life, the one that delicately designs our destiny, sometimes leaving us the possibility to move it as we wish.
For the little ones but not only: the street games of Caimercati are back, ready to invade with wooden games and other materials, disguises, games of light all of Corso Persiani. Among the new features, two artists of lambe lambe theatre, the form of miniature puppet theatre where the shows take place inside small boxes, visible through a peephole by one spectator at a time: inFRAnGIbiLE is the project by Lisa Bencivenni and the Teatro dei gatti by Eloisa Gatto.
This year, some locations will be managed by folk dance companies: La Compagnia del Solstizio Mediterraneo, which proposes and promotes tarantellas from central and southern Italy in the Marche region, with a particular interest in the pizzica salentina; the folk group “Li Matti de Montecò” which instead protects the saltarello marchegiano.
Circo El Grito will also be there, which certainly needs no introduction, given that as a cultural and artistic reality it is now recognized at ministerial level throughout Europe, to present a brand new show, UN AMOUR EN COULEUR. Their presence reiterates the collaboration that began a few months ago on the promotion of contemporary circus in schools, which led to the educational trip of schools from Recanati to the Agreste space managed by the Company in Fontenoce. There will be a fee for entry, given that the proceeds of the evening will allow Whats Art and Circo El Grito to continue their training work in schools.
The Aperi-walk della Musica is an absolute novelty, a new proposal curated by Mauro Viale to better discover Recanati, the city of Poetry, Belcanto and Music.
A walk among the notes, the music and the stories of those who for decades have made hundreds of musicians around the world play, sing and excite: the Castagnari artisan workshop, the Museum of Music, the birthplace of Beniamino Gigli. At the end of the tour, a tasting in a suggestive outdoor location to enjoy the sunset, before arriving in the historic center to attend the Art Festival shows.
The result of the close relationship with the local realities, for the 2025 edition an extra date will be added, as the first “outskirts” experience of the Art Festival. Art blows where it wants and Whats Art intends to spread its benefits in as many contexts as possible. So, on Saturday 26 July, in the Santa Lucia neighborhood of Recanati, live music, DJ sets and good food.
